Students celebrating their success at the Regional Sport for Jove Shakespeare Carnival held on Wednesday, 13th May 2026.

McAuley students showcased their talent and dedication at the Regional Sport for Jove Shakespeare Carnival, with two teams progressing to the State competition in June.

A group of Catherine McAuley students recently had the privilege of attending the Regional Sport for Jove Shakespeare Carnival at Penrith Selective High School, showcasing their creativity, dedication and passion for the performing arts.

The Sport for Jove Shakespeare Carnival is a festival that brings together hundreds of like-minded drama students from across the state. Students present performances inspired by the works of William Shakespeare through a range of theatrical forms including physical theatre, dance, music, ensemble scenes, smart film and more.

In conjunction with the CAPTIVATE After School Ensemble, Catherine McAuley entered three teams into the competition: a duologue performing a scene from Much Ado About Nothing, an ensemble scene, and a physical theatre team, with both latter groups performing scenes from Othello.

Students demonstrated exceptional commitment in the lead-up to the event, dedicating countless hours to after school rehearsals, lunchtime practises, morning sessions and time during the school holidays to refine their performances.

All three groups performed exceptionally well, receiving strong commendations from judges and fellow schools. The Physical Theatre Team was recognised for its effective use of stage space and its powerful portrayal of Othello through expressive movement and facial expressions. The ensemble performance was praised for its emotional depth and ability to engage the audience, while the Duologue Team competed strongly in a highly competitive category, earning praise for their chemistry and emotional interpretation of Much Ado About Nothing.

Catherine McAuley achieved outstanding success, with two of the three teams progressing to the next round of the competition. The Physical Theatre and Ensemble Teams will now advance to the State Carnival, which will take place across two days at the Seymour Centre in June.

“We could not be more grateful to be given this opportunity and hope to bring victory to the school and make Catherine McAuley proud,” the students who presented at the school assembly this week said.

Students being presented with awards
The students were recognised at the school assembly this week with Ms D. Grigson, Assistant Principal presenting them with their certificates.

Congratulations to all students involved for their dedication and hard work. Thank you also to the CAPTIVATE teachers, Ms Picone and Ms Morrison, as well as the school leadership team, for their ongoing support and encouragement.

We wish the students moving on to the state competition every success as they continue their Shakespeare journey.
