The 2026 Catherine McAuley Dance Choregraphers
Catherine McAuley’s 2026 Student Dance Choreographers have been announced, with talented students stepping into leadership roles across Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary and Hip Hop.
“Catherine McAuley Dance students bring such joy and a passion for dance that is infectious,” says Dance Teacher Mrs T. Flynn, as she shares her excitement about working with the Catherine McAuley Dance Companies in 2026.
The 2026 Student Dance Choreographers have now been announced and are already hard at work preparing their performances for the year ahead.
There are three Dance Companies at the school, each led by dedicated student choreographers.
The Jazz Dance Company includes both a Junior and Senior Ensemble. The Junior Ensemble choreographers are Year 8 students Elly W., Tiana S., Angelica Del V. and Alicia D. The Senior Ensemble is led by Year 10 student Savanah N.

The Lyrical and Contemporary Dance Company is choreographed by Year 10 students Mariah Feggaris and Savanah Nour, alongside Mrs Flynn.
The Hip Hop Crew is led by Year 10 student Riena Rose Manuel.
All of the student choreographers are passionate about dance and excited to embrace their new leadership roles. Angelica, one of the Junior Jazz Ensemble choreographers, shared that the group was eager to gain experience teaching others and to pass on their love of dance. “I remember last year when the Year 8 student choreographers taught us and we liked how they taught us so now it’s our turn.”

Elly says jazz is one of her favourite styles because of the way it allows dancers to express their emotions through choreography. “It will be nice watching all the students learn the choreography we have put together, and rewarding to see them perform it.”
Upcoming competitions are already a major highlight. Riena, choreographer of the Hip Hop Crew, is particularly excited about the Bring It On Hip Hop Competition. “I am looking forward to beating another school!” she says.
Savanah, who choreographs the Senior Jazz Ensemble and co-choreographs the Lyrical and Contemporary Company, is eager to see the performances come to life on stage. “To see the costumes, the choreography and how they perform a dance I have worked on; I am really excited.”

Students at Catherine McAuley Westmead marked International Women’s Day today with an inspiring address from Kirsten Andrews, Vice-President, External Engagement at the University of Sydney. Growing up in Elizabeth, South Australia, and becoming the first in her family to attend university, Kirsten shared four powerful lessons she wished she had known at 15 - lessons grounded in courage, resilience and action. 💬 “Confidence is a muscle that grows with use.” Kirsten reminded students that confidence doesn’t arrive overnight - it grows every time you step outside your comfort zone. 💬 “There is no single mentor.” She encouraged students to seek guidance from many people throughout their lives - friends, teachers, supervisors - each playing a role in their journey. 💬 “Work hard at work worth doing.” Drawing on advice from former US President Theodore Roosevelt, she urged students not to wait until everything is mapped out, but to take purposeful first steps. 💬 Your background is your strength. What was once something she hesitated to share has become a source of resilience and perspective that has shaped her leadership. From first-in-family university student to respected leader, Kirsten’s story was a powerful reminder of the impact of opportunity, education and determined leadership. Thank you to all the Year 11 mothers and grandmothers who joined the school today for this special assembly, and the special guests from the Sisters of Mercy, Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese, surrounding schools, Members of Parliament and the Parents & Carers Group. PUBLIC SPEAKING 🗣️ Fantastic results for the Catherine McAuley Westmead Public Speaking Team!! The school has had five students go through to the next round of the Catholic Schools Debating Association (CSDA) Public Speaking competition. 👏👏👏 This is an annual Term 1 event for NSW Catholic school students, featuring multiple rounds where participants deliver prepared speeches on real-world issues. Students compete across Years 7 - 12 and Catherine McAuley had two students from each year take part. The semi-final round will take place on Friday. Wishing all McAuley students the best of luck.

Last week the School Captains and Year 12 Portfolio Leaders attended the annual LIFTED Leaders Conference, hosted by the Parramatta Catholic Diocese at West HQ. Bringing together student leaders from across the diocese, the day provided a valuable opportunity to collaborate, share experiences and reflect on their role within their school communities. Throughout the conference, students explored what it truly means to be an authentic leader in a Catholic school. Bishop Vincent Long encouraged them to focus on mission rather than recognition, reminding them that leadership is not about popularity, but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Catherine McAuley students were recognised in NSW Parliament last month with Donna Davis MP, State Member for Parramatta, making a Community Recognition Statement to acknowledge the work the students have done for the Parramatta Women’s Shelter. The students and Principal Mary Refalo joined Donna for a special afternoon tea today in recognition of this achievement. Last year the Year 10 students took part in the ‘Walk The Talk Respectful Relationships Education Program’ which seeks to educate students about the elements of healthy relationships and the nature and characteristics of relationship abuse and coercive control. The program was delivered by Dannielle Miller OAM, Director of Education, Women’s Community Shelters / CEO Enlighten Education and ex-student of Catherine McAuley, Class of 1987. In addition to taking part in this program the students were also involved, as was the whole school, in raising over $15,000 for the Parramatta Women’s Shelter! Last week the Year 12 Legal Studies students stepped beyond the classroom and into the heart of the justice system as they had the opportunity to visit the Downing Centre Court Complex and the Justice and Police Museum. ⚖️ 👮♀️ This excursion gave the students a chance to see the legal system in action. From observing real-life court proceedings to exploring the fascinating development of forensic science, their learning truly came to life. The experience was capped off with a mock trial, where students stepped into legal roles themselves - an engaging and memorable way to deepen their understanding. Teacher Ms L. Spelman said that the students immensely enjoyed the experience and it has further cemented their passion for law.

🏊🏻 SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2026 🏊🏻 The School Swimming Carnival was held last week on Friday, 27th February at the Parramatta Aquatic Centre and was a wonderful community day for all who wanted to participate, despite the rain. Simultaneously, for those who wished to stay at school, there was a great sense of spirit as the students came together to enjoy various relay activites.

WELCOME TO YEAR 7 PARENTS 🥰 It was a wonderful afternoon yesterday welcoming Year 7 students and their families to the Catherine McAuley community at the annual ‘Year 7 Parents’ Afternoon’. The youngest and newest members of Catherine McAuley are already settling in beautifully - navigating the school with confidence, building friendships and proudly showing their parents, carers and siblings around their classrooms and favourite spaces. Seeing Mercy Square filled with smiling faces is a special reminder of the strong sense of community at Catherine McAuley Westmead. 🫶 Thank you to the members of the Parents & Carers Group for helping to welcome all the new parents, the talented Music students for providing the afternoon’s entertainment and to the students who so warmly assisted with hospitality. It was a truly special Catherine McAuley afternoon.
