Students in workshops for McAuley Career Development Day
Year 9 students enjoyed hearing from different speakers at their Career Development Day held last week.

The Career Development Day held last week for Year 9 students introduced them to informed career planning.

:Last week, on Wednesday 12th November, Year 9 students engaged in a Career Development Day centred on exploration and awareness. This event was not intended for students to make career decisions, but rather to introduce them to the processes involved in informed career planning.

During the opening session, Kathryn Taylor from Turning Point Consulting guided students through the fundamentals of resume writing. Students examined their personal strengths, skills and existing experiences, resulting in a resume suitable for applications such as part-time employment or scholarships.

In the next two periods, students selected two areas of interest, such as science, engineering, business, medicine and health, law, film and media, or apprenticeships. These sessions were designed to spark curiosity and broaden students’ understanding of different fields. We thank representatives from the University of Sydney, AIE, and 1300 Apprenticeships for delivering informative and engaging workshops.

In the final session of the day, students were introduced to practical tools to support their future pathways, including interview tips, how to create a Unique Student Identifier and Tax File Number, and an overview of helpful career websites.

Students are encouraged to make an appointment with Ms J. Xuereb, Leader of Learning Pathways & Partnerships, if they would like to explore possible career pathways further or need assistance with their resume.
