Khuda Women in STEM
Catherine McAuley is proud to congratulate the following students who have been selected to take part in the Khuda Women in STEM Academy in 2026, in partnership with the University of Sydney.
This exciting achievement recognises the passion and dedication to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) of the students involved. The Khuda Academy is part of a new initiative funded by an amazing $100 million donation from the Khuda Family Foundation, which aims to support and empower young women from Western Sydney to explore and excel in STEM education and careers.
Participation in the Academy opens many opportunities and also places students on a pathway to becoming University of Sydney Khuda STEM Scholars, providing reduced ATAR requirements and a guaranteed scholarship to support their studies in eligible Science and Engineering courses at the University of Sydney.
The selected students will participate in a unique program of hands-on learning as well as personalised tutoring and mentoring opportunities, and direct exposure to cutting-edge STEM experiences with the University of Sydney’s Science and Engineering faculties.
This achievement represents an incredible opportunity for our students to grow their skills, confidence and networks in STEM. Well done to all students selected for the 2026 Khuda Women in STEM Academy! We cannot wait to see the amazing things you will achieve in the future.

LANGUAGES PERFORMANCE EVENING 🎶 🇯🇵 🇫🇷 On Wednesday night Years 8-10 Japanese and French students lit up the stage with dialogue, skits, cultural presentations, poetry and musical performances! Their creativity, confidence and genuine love of language shone through every moment. It was wonderful to see such impressive fluency and skill on display - a credit to both our talented students and their dedicated teachers.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT 👏👏👏 Congratulations to Year 7 student Kyra P. who has been selected for the Cricket U15 NSW All Schools Championship Team. As part of this opportunity, Kyra will be representing NSW at the School Sport Australia Cricket U15 Championship in Bunbury, Western Australia, in February 2026. Well done Kyra! 🙌

HSC CLASS OF 2025 😃 As we wait for HSC results to come out in a couple of weeks the school is very pleased to announce that for many students from the Class of 2025 they already know they have a place at university next year. Students from the Class of 2025 have received 312 early entry university offers directly from universities and 66 School Recommendation Scheme offers via UAC (Universities Admissions Centre). These university offers have been received from a number of institutions with most from Western Sydney University, Macquarie University, Australian Catholic University and University of Technology Sydney. One student received a $10,000 scholarship from UNSW conditional on receiving an ATAR of 80. One of our Indigenous students was offered a place into the Gadigal program at USYD which is a first for the school. This offers her a lowered ATAR and additional support. Many students received five to six offers. Congratulations to the Class of 2025! 🙌

CHRISTMAS-THEMED THURSDAY 🎅🎄 It’s hard to believe Christmas is just 21 days away! Students and staff at Catherine McAuley were well and truly in the festive spirit today, with everyone invited to wear Christmas-themed accessories or a bright Christmas shirt. Also on offer was the Year 11 Clare face painting stall and Christmas karaoke. Students were invited to make a gold coin donation for JRS.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT ➡️ Congratulations to Year 12 student Alysse Y. who has achieved Runner Up (equal) in the History Teachers’ Association of NSW Extension History Essay Prize. Alysse wrote an essay on the topic of ‘Modern Eyes On Tradition: The Historiography of Tokugawa Japan's Caste System’. Alysse will be acknowledged at a presentation ceremony organised by the History Teachers’ Association of NSW for all 2025 History High Achievers in March next year. 👏👏👏

Students and staff created beautiful handmade items - from student-designed cards to tree and table decorations, all in support of JRS (Jesuit Refugee Service). Thank you to everyone who supported this meaningful initiative!

YEAR 8 INITIATIVES 🎄🥰 Year 8 has been busy building connection and kindness over the past few weeks. The students created personalised bookmarks for one another as a gesture of friendship and handed them out this morning. They also took part in a Grade Chat, forming small groups based on random number cards, as an opportunity to talk with peers they may not usually interact with. Finally, Year 8 have created Christmas chains by writing prayers for a cause or group on House coloured strips of cardboard and linking them together to hang in their Homerooms. The Christmas chains are a symbol of hope and community this Christmas season.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS - Year 10 Commerce wrapped up the year with a ‘Travel’ expo, showcasing destinations from around the world! ✈️ 🌍 Ms Nicolson’s class took it to the next level by preparing cultural dishes from their chosen countries, inviting staff and students to taste, explore and vote for the most convincing destination. Congratulations to the group representing Spain who were voted the winners however Ms Nicolson said there were many other wonderful groups presenting destinations such as Japan, South Korea, France, Italy, the USA and Dubai.

YEAR 10 FIRST AID TRAINING 💞 Year 10 students spent today gaining real-life, life-saving skills as they completed their Senior First Aid Certificate! Students learned how to perform CPR, use an EpiPen, apply bandages and respond confidently in emergencies. Such important skills - well done, Year 10! 👏

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS 👏👏👏 Congratulations to Year 8 student Hrishita S. who has been selected as a Finalist in the R U OK? National Student Art Competition. Hrishita’s artwork was voted by the judging panel as one of the top artworks submitted. Hrishita was sent an art prize pack and a conversation pack which includes R U OK? merchandise to help start more meaningful conversations.

The HSC Geography class took learning beyond the classroom last week! 🌏Students snorkelled the kelp forests of Jervis Bay, explored Berry as a rural case study, and heard firsthand about sustainable winemaking at Silos Estate Winery. Mrs G. Noud and Mrs L. Williams commented on what a privilege it was to take away students who were so keen to get involved in everything and were so interested and engaged in all they learned.
