Year 7 English students enjoyed a play last month to support their unit on Drama.

On Tuesday, 12th August, Year 7 students had the fantastic opportunity to watch the play ‘The Cyberbully’, a perfect way to support our English unit on drama. The production was not only entertaining but also highly educational, teaching us about the various techniques needed to create an engaging and relatable performance.

The talented actors demonstrated key drama skills throughout the show. They used strong projection, ensuring their voices were loud and clear, and their expressive facial expressions helped convey the characters' emotions. We also learned how to use props effectively; the actors showed us that a stage doesn't need to be crowded to be interesting, and that using items thoughtfully can make a performance more powerful.

To make the play more interactive and personal, the cast involved a Year 7 volunteer from the audience. This taught us a very important lesson: how easily text messages and online conversations can be misinterpreted, leading to conflict and sadness. The performance made us realize that what might seem like a harmless joke to one person can deeply hurt another's feelings. It powerfully illustrated that cyberbullying is a very serious issue, with real-world consequences, and can even be illegal.

Throughout the play, the actors were completely immersed in their roles. Their body language and tone of voice changed naturally to suit different situations and characters, which made their performance feel authentic and believable. Overall, it was a valuable experience that taught us much about drama and the serious nature of cyberbullying.
