House prayers have been developed for each of the seven Houses.
Throughout last year the Student Liturgy Leaders from each House worked closely with Ms M. O’Donoghue and Mrs N. Nicolson to create a unique House prayer for each of the seven Houses. This initiative was undertaken by Ms O’Donoghue and Mrs Nicolson as part of their involvement with the Mercy Formation Program.
The Mercy Formation Program sees two staff members from each of the six Mercy schools in Sydney (Mercy College, Chatswood; Monte Sant Angelo, North Sydney; Our Lady of Mercy College, Parramatta; Our Lady of Mercy College, Burraneer, Emmaus College, Kemps Creek and Catherine McAuley Westmead) participate after being nominated by their school principal. The staff involved chose a project to work on which will deepen the understanding of the Mercy charism.

The development of a House prayer was chosen as a way to further strengthen House spirit and honour the distinct history of each House. Ms O’Donoghue and Mrs Nicolson worked with Liturgy Leaders over several months on writing the prayers, with the students taking ownership of the project by writing prayers that reflect the identity and values of their House. It is intended that the prayers will be used and cherished for years to come.
Liturgy Leaders Elisha Z. and Lara Z. presented the initiative at the school assembly last week where every student was given their House prayer on a small card. “You are welcome to keep this card in your planner, place it on the fridge at home, or even slip it into your phone case as a meaningful reminder of your House community,” they told the assembly. “Each Homeroom will also receive a copy of their House prayer to use as part of their morning routine.”

NAIDOC WEEK - NAIDOC Week was held during the school holidays. This year is the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week and the theme was ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’. This week at Catherine McAuley the school marked NAIDOC Week with a number of events organised by the Strong Sisters, a group of indigenous McAuley students. Each lunchtime there are weaving and painting activities in Mercy Square. Students have the opportunity to learn how to weave using a traditional indigenous method or to paint a small wooden boomerang or message stick using indigenous symbols.

PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMS ▪️ At the school assembly last week the school recognised a number of students who have completed university level subjects through one of the partnership programs the school has with Western Sydney University, Australian Catholic University and HEX (Higher Education Experience). Ms J. Xuereb, Leader of Learning Pathways & Partnerships, spoke about the programs each student was involved in. “These students took on the challenge of balancing their regular Year 11 and 12 studies with university-standard expectations”, Ms Xuereb said. “By stepping out of their comfort zones they were able to manage deadlines, and developed valuable skills such as critical thinking, academic writing and independent learning that will benefit them well into the future. Their success demonstrates commitment, resilience, and a strong desire to learn. Most importantly, they have shown that secondary students are capable of meeting university-level expectations when given the opportunity and the right mindset.”

HOUSE PRAYER CARDS ✝️ At the school assembly last week every student was given a copy of the newly developed House prayer for their House. These unique prayers were developed by the Student Liturgy Leaders in consultation with Ms M. O’Donoghue and Mrs N. Nicolson as part of their involvement with the Mercy Formation Program. This program aims to help deepen the understanding of the Mercy charism. Each of the seven Houses now has their own unique prayer reflecting the identity and values of their House. It is intended that the prayers will be used and cherished for years to come.

WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION 👷🏽♀️ This morning Year 10 students and interested Year 11 students had the unique opportunity to attend a women in construction careers session presented by KANE Constructions. The session challenged common assumptions about working in the construction industry and helped broaden students’ understanding of what is possible.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️ Year 7 Science students have been studying diffusion in their Science classes. On Tuesday students of Mrs S. Bain were investigating diffusion of a liquid. The students were using food dye and water and were looking at how the dye diffuses throughout the water.

TEAM BUILDING FOR YEAR 9 💪 What an amazing day!! A one day outdoor recreation experience for Year 9 to foster team building and resilience was held last Friday, 25th July at Vision Valley, Arcadia. All students were positively challenged throughout each activity as they also developed skills in problem solving and critical thinking. “The camaraderie of students was at an all time high as girls encouraged one another to climb higher, work together on the mountain bikes or team up in activities like archery tag”, said Mrs L. Beadman, Leader of Learning Wellbeing Year 9.

SUBJECT CHOICE 🧐 Biology? Business Services? English Advanced? Hopefully last night all questions were answered as the Year 10 students and their parents attended the Year 11 2026 Subject Selection Evening. Students and their parents had the opportunity to speak with Leaders of Learning Curriculum and subject teachers who were available for questions. Following the subject market a parent information session was held with parents hearing about the many pathways of study at Catherine McAuley as well as the NESA requirements for the HSC.

FRIENDSHIP DAY 🌼 Yesterday was International Friendship Day and as part of the celebration the Student Sport Leaders organised a Wellbeing Just Dance event. Students were able to come together with their friends, including some of our visiting Japanese exchange students, and have some fun dancing. An added bonus was that all students who were active and participated earned a House point with 442 House points collated.
