It’s used to hosting glamorous events when punters and fashionistas flock there and it was no exception when a western Sydney high school held its formal at Rosehill Gardens.
Graduates from Catherine McAuley Westmead were not quite going to the races but they laid on the glamour when they headed to Rosehill Gardens for their Year 12 formal on Friday night.
After stepping out of limousines, students dodged the rain and sashayed into the local landmark with a kaleidoscope of gowns on show.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS 👏👏👏 Well done to Year 8 student Jenolin P. who was awarded a Highly Commended Award in the Blacktown City Council 2025 ‘Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize’. Jenolin was awarded in the 13 - 15 Years Old Age Group and recently read her piece at the awards ceremony.

Year 12 Chemistry students attended The University of Sydney Chemistry Kickstart Program at the end of last term. 👩🔬 💦 🧫 In the words of their teacher Mrs Manoogian, “The students worked through different spectroscopy techniques such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry and UV-Visible Spectrophotometry, to investigate the interaction between matter and electromagnetic radiation of all different wavelengths. The students learnt how these instruments are operated and used them to analyse different organic compounds.” Sounds complicated! 👩🔬👩🔬 This program was a wonderful opportunity for the HSC Chemistry students to continue their study and preparation for the HSC.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS 👏👏👏 The school is pleased to announce that two talented Year 11 Photography students, Angelique A. and Amelia A., have been selected as finalists in the 2025 ALCHEMY Photographic Exhibition. Their photographs were chosen by a panel of judges for their exceptional creativity and artistic excellence. The Exhibition Opening Night will take place at Caroline Chisholm College, Glenmore Park on Thursday 31st July 6.00pm - 8.00pm. Congratulations Angelique and Amelia! AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️ Year 7 Geography students spent Term 2 learning about places and liveability. Students of Mrs P. Relan had the opportunity to use the skills and information they had obtained in class to work in small groups to create their own community. Mrs Relan said the students worked very well together, with great enthusiasm and creative flair, to create their communities in only a short period of time. Year 7 student Michelle P. said she really enjoyed working with her teammates as they planned their city and thought about how their designated roles (town planner, Minister of Safety, etc) might play a part in supporting their build. Michelle said her group included items that would make their city liveable such as a hospital that also provides a retirement home, a large public school and university, restaurants, an apartment block, a beach, a police and fire station, parks, a town hall, a church, train station, museum, sporting ground and more. Michelle said each building was specifically placed in a position to create convenience as they had thought about things like placing the train station near the school and the police station near the hospital.
