Year 8 students enjoyed a live production of 'Flowers for Algernon
Last Thursday, the Year 8 cohort watched a live performance of ‘Flowers For Algernon.’
The play was a very enjoyable experience which deeply influenced our understanding of the unit of growth. It was very enjoyable as the actors were very engaging and kept us interested.
The storyline follows Charlie Gordon, a man who undergoes an experiment where his intelligence is artificially boosted and a mouse named Algernon. We learnt how changes and growth are seen differently with others especially through Charlie. It also helped us to become more aware of how mentally troubled individuals experience life, what challenges they may face and how they may perceive the things around them.
The story of “Flowers for Algernon” was portrayed exceptionally by the actors, which added to the show to make it interesting, so we were very engaged in the storyline of the show. Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience that helped deepen our understanding of this term’s unit, which is “Growing”.

🟰➕YEAR 8 MATHS FUN ✖️➗ Last Friday, Year 8 students enjoyed a full day of exciting mathematical activities as part of the Maths Enrichment Day, a day designed to build problem-solving skills through fun, hands-on and collaborative activities. Students took part in a workshop run by Inquisitive Minds, working in pairs to tackle problems using critical and creative thinking. They then enjoyed fast-paced Maths Relays and a 3D building challenge using wooden blocks to design imaginative models. The day ended on a high with our very own Maths X Factor, where students showcased their creativity through maths-themed songs — a perfect finish to a day filled with enthusiasm and teamwork! 🎤

'On Thursday last week, Year 8 English students enjoyed a live production of ‘Flowers For Algernon’, a science-fiction short story centered around the concept of growth and development. The students are studying a unit called 'Growing' this term, the play gave them an interesting insight into self-reflection, resilience and trust. 📚🎭

UTS Discovery Day - Design & Communication 🎨🗣️ Last week, a group of Year 10 and Year 11 students attended an exciting Discovery Day at UTS, focusing on the world of Design and Communication where the students explored a range of study options through interactive workshops and presentations. The day gave students valuable insights into university life and future pathways in the creative and communication fields. From building scale models and sketching animated characters, to exploring advertising and conducting interviews on real-world issues - the day was packed with creative inspiration and career insights. 💡🎬📰 Students were thrilled to bump into ex McAuley student Czeydan, Class of 2021, who is now thriving at UTS! Charlotte from Year 11 reflected that, "Having the opportunity to attend UTS taught me many valuable lessons, like what universities look for during enrolment. I gained knowledge about various courses, majors and minors such as journalism and criminology and the different modules available."

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS - YEAR 11 LEGAL STUDIES 🌍⚖️ Last week in Legal Studies, Year 11 students took on a unique and creative challenge - designing their very own country! 🇺🇳 From naming their nation and designing flags, to building a legal system and drafting a constitution focused on protecting human rights, the students enjoyed this taster project to help prepare them for the Year 12 Legal Studies Human Rights topic. Teacher Ms L. Spelman said that the students went above and beyond in their efforts to create their own country. Treaties were signed, laws were debated, and there were even baked goods to sweeten those diplomatic deals! 🍰🤝
