Year 12 students with the Countdown Banner
The Year 12 students have started counting down the days until Graduation!
The much-loved Year 12 tradition of hanging a countdown banner in Coolock Court began on Tuesday, as students unveiled their banner at lunchtime. This year’s countdown started from Day 9 and will tick away each day until graduation.
The Class of 2025 has chosen a Netflix theme, with a ‘25 Season’ design that counts down the ‘episodes’ leading up to the final ‘episode’ on Graduation Day.
Created by Year 12 Visual Arts students, the banner is a reminder that the 12th and final season is drawing to a close. It reads: “The Class of 2025 comes to an end of their school journey at Catherine McAuley Westmead, looking forward to the next episodes of their life.”
The episodes so far have included the swimming carnival (Episode 1), athletics carnival (Episode 2), senior retreat (Episode 3), the formal (Episode 4), and Mercy Day (Episode 5). The series finale, Episode 6, will be graduation.

👏STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS👏 Well done to Year 11 students Cyrille R. and Jessica C. on being selected to participate in the Step Up Program at the Australian Catholic University. Cyrille will be studying Business 📈, whilst Jessica will dive into Criminology 🕵🏻 as part of this fantastic opportunity to complete two first-year university units whilst still in school. They will begin their studies during the upcoming school holidays. We wish them both all the best as they take this exciting step towards their future.

👏STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS👏 A huge congratulations to Year 11 students Taylah C., Anabella G. and Ashleigh N. for being selected to take part in the Step Up into Teaching Program at the Australian Catholic University 👩🏫. This program gives students in year 11 a chance to experience university life by completing two university-level teaching units, giving them a head start on their tertiary journey whilst also building valuable skills. They will be commencing their studies in the upcoming school holidays. We wish them well in their studies!

SCHOOL ASSEMBLY🔸 This morning at the assembly the school community gathered to celebrate student achievements across Science, VET, Sports and STEM. 🔹 Science students were recognised for outstanding results in the Big Science Competition. 🔹VET students were congratulated for success in the World Skills and ParraSkills competitions, with special mention to Summer K. for her recognition at the NSW Training Awards. 🔹 Sporting successes were celebrated with PDSSSC Season 1 & 2 winners acknowledged including the Senior OzTag and Netball Teams and the Junior Football Fives Team. 🔹 STEM Mad participants were also acknowledged for their innovation and creativity.

WALK THE TALK 💜 Year 10 students are continuing to ‘Walk The Talk’ as they follow on from their participation in the Walk The Talk Respectful Relationships Education Program. This program encouraged students to implement an awareness campaign within the school community about domestic violence (DV) and abuse. As part of this initiative, the Mercedes Homeroom organised ‘The Butterfly Effect’, an activity designed to spark a ripple effect of acknowledgement, empathy, and understanding around DV. Each Year 10 student wrote a meaningful message about domestic violence on a purple butterfly, which was then combined with others to form a butterfly mosaic, now displayed in the Library. The butterfly serves as a symbol of change, created from many small messages and shared reflections, with the hope of inspiring the wider school community to become more aware and knowledgeable about this serious issue.

Thank you to all parents and carers and special guests who joined with the school in celebrating Mercy Day on Friday, 5th September. 🎉🎉 The school was very pleased to have join us Past Principals Margery Jackman and Sister Barbara McDonough rsm and Sisters of Mercy Sr Margaret Jones, Sr Patricia Bolster, Sister Margaret Hinchey and Sr Margaret Sheppard. The school also welcomed a number of leaders from Catholic Schools Diocese of Parramatta, Principals and Assistant Principals from neighbouring schools, Vicki Baiada, President of the Alumni Association, parents from the Parents & Carers Group and parents and carers of the student leaders.
