The Repurpose Pop-Up Stall held as part of Environment Week.

In Week 7 of this term Catherine McAuley celebrated its annual Environment Week.

Organised by both the Environment Leaders and the Student Earth Action Committee (EAC), the Environment Week activities aimed to focus on individual and collective actions that help the environment - highlighting how small, everyday choices, can have a significant impact. It was a jam-packed week of fun activities, all whilst underlining our shared duty of protecting the planet!

The week started off on Tuesday, 10th June with the Repurpose Pop-Up Stall. The purpose of this stall was to raise awareness about sustainable practices and promote eco-friendly habits within our community. On offer were items created by students from EAC using recycled and reused products, with an awareness of its ethical and environmental means of production. The atmosphere of the day was helped by the Student Culture Leaders with live busking from talented music students.

On Wednesday and Thursday everybody from the school community was given the opportunity to create environmentally themed chalk drawings on the side of the BM Building. By creating vibrant chalk drawings students expressed their creativity, alongside their respect for the earth, using materials that wash away without harming the environment. Alongside chalk drawings, there was also a showing of ‘The Lorax’, a movie expressing the value of stewardship and bringing attention to the issue of deforestation.

On Friday, 13th June there was the ‘Eco-Swaps: Thrift Store.’ The idea of this store was that people would hand in pre-loved clothes and items, and swap them for the same amount of other items. Items were also able to be bought with a gold coin to encourage people to purchase clothes without the use of fast fashion. Through Eco-Swaps, our school showed its passion in the fight against overconsumption.

In celebrating Environment Week we have once again demonstrated that small, thoughtful actions can make a big difference. We are reminded that when we work together, our everyday choices can shape a greener, brighter future. Let us carry this passion and responsibility beyond this week, and continue to care for our environment!
