A new initiative called ‘Cleanmac' has been launched by the Student Environment Action Group.

A dedicated team of Catherine McAuley students are determined to keep the school clean, green and proud through their new initiative they have called ‘Cleanmac’. The Student Environment Action Group launched Cleanmac at the school assembly last week. Student Environment Leaders Brinda S. and Emily P. told those assembled that the school’s 2025 theme to ‘Strive for the 5’ comes to life though Cleanmac.
“Courage to take the first step toward change; Justice in reducing waste and sharing responsibility fairly; Integrity in doing the right thing, even when no one’s watching; Hospitality in how we care for our shared spaces; and Excellence in every action, big or small, that helps keep our school beautiful,” they said.
Students were told about the collection of bottles and cans, with all funds raised going to St Vincent de Paul, and the upcoming Environment Week to be held in June. Environment Week will run from 10th June though to 13th June and will include a repurposed pop up stall, a video viewing of the movie The Lorax (to highlight its message about deforestation), a thrift stall called ‘Eco Swaps’, and an environmental themed chalk drawing activity.
In preparation for Environment Week students can now donate their clean, preloved clothes in the baskets in each Homeroom.

STEM CLUB π» Students have the opportunity to participate in STEM activities every Thursday afternoon. Yesterday the students were challenged to come up with ideas for how they might help an anxious new student settle into school. Working in small groups the students were brainstorming for initiatives such as a buddy system, icebreaker games, seating plans and a buddy app. Next week the Technology Leaders will be running a full week of STEM activities as the school celebrates βSTEM Weekβ.

PDSSSC CROSS COUNTRY ππΌββοΈ Well done to the students from Years 7-12 who represented Catherine McAuley at the PDSSSC Cross Country event held last Friday, 9th May at Horsley Park. All students represented the school with great pride. Congratulations to Elana R. who placed 1st in the U18s event and Neave S. who placed 2nd in the U17s. Both Elana and Neave will now progress through to the next level.

LIFTED Rise π£ π£ A number of Catherine McAuley Year 8 students joined with other students from secondary schools across the diocese for the Lifted Rise event today at West HQ Rooty Hill. Organised by Catholic Schools Diocese of Parramatta and Catholic Youth Parramatta the event offered the students a day of music, testimony and discussion.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS β‘οΈ Year 9 Elective Dance students have been learning about the history and development of jazz dance. They have learnt about the different elements of dance and the choreographic style of Bob Fosse, one of the most influential figures in the field of jazz dance in the twentieth century. At the school assembly today the Year 9 Elective Dance students performed some of the jazz sequences they have learnt. The movements were collaboratively choreographed by some of the dance students and teacher Ms Flynn.

STRIVE FOR THE 5 π The Catherine McAuley Student Leadership Team has given each McAuley student a βStrive For The 5β keyring as a reminder of the school theme for 2025. The school theme for 2025, developed by the Student Leaders, is βStrive For The 5β, with the β5β representing the five Mercy values of Justice, Excellence, Hospitality, Courage and Integrity. All students received their keyring at the school assembly today.

Congratulations to the three Year 12 students who represented the school at the Regional VET WorldSkills Australia Competition. π€© WorldSkills is a national competition that celebrates excellence in vocational education and training. Niamh M. achieved 1st place in the competition and received a Gold Award. Niamh will now go to Brisbane to compete in the National competition in June. π Sarah D. achieved 3rd place and received a Bronze Award. Isabella L. received a Certificate of Participation. Our Lady of Mercy Statue Gifted To The School By Sisters of Mercy Parramatta
The school has been gifted a statue of Our Lady of Mercy by the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta. The statue has a unique history and was made by a sculptor who had also carved the well known statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
