Year 12 student Summer K. has been named as the VET in Schools Student of the Year at the NSW Training Awards (Western Sydney and Blue Mountains Region). Summer was awarded for her work in VET Business Services and VET Fitness.

A Year 12 Catherine McAuley Westmead student has been announced as the VET Student of the Year for the Western Sydney and Blue Mountains Region.

Year 12 student Summer K. has been named as the VET in Schools Student of the Year at the NSW Training Awards (Western Sydney and Blue Mountains Region). Summer was awarded for her work in VET Business Services and VET Fitness.

“I was absolutely thrilled to be the winner of the VET in Schools Student of the Year,” said Summer at the awards ceremony held on Friday night at Parramatta Town Hall. “It is such an incredible opportunity to be here. My advice for anyone thinking of doing VET is to absolutely go for it, it is such an awesome stepping stone for your career. It really provides you with the opportunity to develop your industry relevant skills.”

Catherine McAuley had two finalists in the VET in Schools Student of the Year category. Summer (VET Business Services and VET Fitness) and Georgia B. (VET Retail, VET Hospitality and VET Beauty Services). This outstanding achievement is in addition to the achievement announced last week by Year 12 student Niamh M. who won the Silver Medal at the National Worldskills Championships in the VET in Schools Business Services competition.

VET Business Services Teacher Mrs T. Grima said she is very proud of Summer and her achievements. “This award acknowledges Summer’s hard work and commitment to her VET studies. It is also a great example of the fantastic outcomes that vocational education at school has to offer.”

Ms P. Relan is also a teacher of VET Business Services and congratulates Summer on her award. “This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to Summer’s hard work, dedication and passion. Summer is not only a credit to her grade but also an inspiration to her peers and a proud representative of our school.”

VET Fitness Teacher Miss S. Brincat is equally proud of Summer’s achievements in winning this award. “Summer is a well deserved recipient of the award. She is very passionate about the fitness course and has a keen interest in going on to complete the qualification and put her skills into action in the workforce. I can see her being very successful in her future pursuits in this area"
