Catherine McAuley students joined with students from across the Diocese for the Lifted Rise event on Thursday 16th May 2024.
Last week students from Years 8 - 10 came together with other students from across the Catholic Parramatta Diocese to attend the ‘Lifted Rise’ event facilitated by Catholic Youth Parramatta, in partnership with the CSPD Mission Team.
The event was an opportunity for participants to come together to experience and strengthen their faith through a combination of various faith-based activities including music, testimony, discussion and prayer. It is a great way for young people to unite and celebrate the faith community they are a part of.
Activities focused on the importance of how to better understand our connection with God through silence, reflection, fellowship, and music and its lyrics. Workshops on the day focused on the gift of the Holy Spirit and its presence, given the upcoming Sunday was Pentecost. Students enjoyed singing, socialising and worshipping.
The following testimonies from students highlight how their faith was strengthened and how they felt taking part in Lifted Rise helped their relationship with God.
The many fun activities which we completed together in groups allowed us to grow closer in our faith with God. We made many new friends and had the most amazing day!

Year 11 & 12 Trivia Fundraiser 🎬🏈📚 A fantastic time was had by all who were involved in the Parramatta Women’s Shelter Trivia Fundraiser on Tuesday the 11th of June. The lunchtime battle was a huge success with questions being asked from a range of categories including History, Sport and Pop Culture. There was even a teacher showdown with Mr Taniane and Ms Shipley facing off answering questions about Parramatta Women’s Shelter. Year 12 won this round but hopefully Year 11 can have their revenge later in the term. A big thank you to the Ryan, Mercedes and Clare leaders who ran the day.

Career Breakfast Forum 📚 Yesterday, ex-students of 2017, Sara Mendonca and Jasmine Sutrina joined us before school to talk about their careers in the health industry. Sara is an emergency nurse and Jasmine is an environmental health officer. Both offered insight into their roles, the courses they studied and inspirational advice on how to achieve goals. The students who attended found the experience valuable in helping them to make decisions for the future.

The Year 12 Chemistry students went on an excursion to the University of Sydney' School of Chemistry on Tuesday the 4th of June. 👩🔬 "Students had the opportunity to learn more about spectroscopy - the field of study that interprets the electromagnetic spectrum, as they interacted with high-tech spectrometry equipment. It was an enjoyable day as students got a taste of university life and gained a deeper understanding of what it would be like to potentially study the field" - Michelle Saju Thomas, Year 12 Chemistry Student.

On Friday, June 7th, 4 Year 9 students from Catherine McAuley attended the Sacred Heart Westmead Feast Day Mass with Ms Grigson. Fr John’s homily, emphasised the importance of being grateful for God's blessings and how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. The message encouraged the students to reflect on ways they can express gratitude and put their faith into action through compassionate deeds. The students left the mass feeling inspired to carry forward this message of gratitude and kindness in their daily lives. The impactful homily reinforced the value of appreciating God's love and finding meaningful ways to share that blessing with others. ❤

Cheers and Competition at the 2024 School Athletics Carnival
On Thursday, 6th June the Catherine McAuley Athletics Carnival took place at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. A number of competitive and novelty events were run, with many girls getting involved within the events which was great to see!

NSW CCC Cross Country 🏃♀️ On Wednesday the 5th of June, students Scarlett of year 7 and Niamh and Neave of year 11 attended the NSW CCC Cross Country event. Scarlett placed 7th and has made it through to the next level, where she will be participating at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships on the 24th July. Well done to all the girls for their efforts and good luck to Scarlett!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2024 🥇 Yesterday Catherine McAuley Westmead had their Athletics Carnival which was held at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Students were able to participate in a range of competitive and non-competitive activities and events to earn House points. The change in weather definitely did not drown out the carnival spirit!
