Year 8 Catherine McAuley Westmead History Students during the Interactive Medieval Incursion
Year 8 History students enjoyed an interactive medieval session on Wednesday 3rd April 2024.

Semester 1 Year 8 History students last week enjoyed an interactive medieval session to complement their study of Medieval Europe.

Year 8 Media Team and History student Sienna K. writes below:

Running a relay in metal chainmail, which weighed at least 4 kgs, whilst grabbing a shield and passing it onto the next person was just one of the fun games we played at the medieval incursion last week. Some hair was lost in the process, including by me, which was slightly painful but also really funny.

During the incursion we learnt about medieval times and what it was like to live during this period. We learnt what people wore during battle and about the armour they had to protect themselves from weapons. We also learnt what people ate, how they went to the toilet and how they learnt to become a knight.

One of the most interesting things was a demonstration by the presenters on how the swords and shields were used and we were all shocked when the sword hit the shield so hard it made a huge echo in the Morley Centre. We were all amazed that the female presenter could hit that hard. The whole incursion was very enjoyable and I thought it was an amazing experience.
