On Monday, 27th November Catherine McAuley welcomed the award winning author Felicity Castagna to the school for a series of talks and workshops.

Felicity has published four novels for adults and young adults including her most recent book, ‘Girls In Boys’ Cars’ which recently won the Victorian and Queensland Premier’s Literary Award. ‘Girls in Boys’ Cars’ was also adapted for stage by The Riverside Theatre of Parramatta.

Valarie A., a Year 11 member of the Student Media, interviewed Felicity about her work and her time spent at Catherine McAuley. Felicity said she found the students at Catherine McAuley very enthusiastic about stories and storytelling.

Her advice to students when crafting an extended piece of writing is to concentrate on the most specific details possible. “Concentrate on thinking about what the emotional heart of the story is and tell a story which takes someone through a journey so they feel emotionally different from the beginning to towards the end”, said Felicity.
