Jasmine O. and Jacinta A., shown with School Principal Ms Mary Refalo, have been announced as the School Captains for Term 4 2022 and 2023.
Jasmine O. and Jacinta A. have been announced as the Catherine McAuley School Captains for 2023! Jacinta and Jasmine will begin their positions starting next term (Term 4).
Both Jasmine and Jacinta have been active leaders throughout their school life with Jasmine on the Student Representative Council, the current Assistant Leader of Social Justice, a member of the Mercy In Action Group (MAG), a Maths PASS Tutor, helper at open evenings, and much more.
Jacinta has equally been very involved in school life which has included, amongst other activities, a member of the school debating team since Year 7, participated in public speaking, helped at school open events, a Maths PASS tutor, chosen for the Academy U Program and currently the SRC rep for her Homeroom.
Both Jasmine and Jacinta embody the spirit of Mercy and look forward to their leadership roles. Jacinta feels strongly about female empowerment and wants younger students to realise that they are capable of contributing to change. “The world is in need of change and what better place to start than at 2 Darcy Road, Westmead”, she says.
Jasmine has an interest in mental health and hopes to lead the school in having a greater focus on this, specifically focusing on the stress of the assessment period.

READING IS FUN! - A group of Year 11 students have been working with Mother Teresa Primary School students every Wednesday morning this past term in a reading program which will continue all year. Each term a new group of Year 11 students will take part and for half an hour every Wednesday before school they will spend time reading and listening to Years 1-3 students. The program is a rewarding experience for both the Catherine McAuley students and the Mother Teresa ones.

PROJECT COMPASSION β Last days of Project Compassion fundraising. π Yesterday there was a karaoke fundraiser organised by Year 11 Dobson with students making a gold coin donation to watch or participate and today it was Years 7 and 12 Coolock who organised a spider drink stall.

Year 8 Geography students spent the day last Wednesday exploring The Rocks and learning about the importance of water in the world. π¦ π¦ The students learnt about the connection between water and social status in the early days of colonisation and they learnt about the Tank Stream which used to be the main source of water in the area. It flowed through what we now call Pitt Street.

PROJECT COMPASSION βοΈ Year 12 students continued a tradition this morning which they started when they were in Year 7 with Mrs Wilson (now retired) as their Year Coordinator. The students every year save their loose change and do a money trail as a Project Compassion fundraiser. This year, given it is their last, the students excelled and raised $706.65! π The House with the longest money trail was Veritas House, who also raised the most money with a total of $235.90. All Year 12 Homerooms contributed with Caritas House raising the next largest amount with $167.80. Well done Year 12 on this tradition and for raising so much today for Project Compassion. ππ
