Shanelle W. and Latika N. speaking at school assembly
Shanelle W. and Latika N. launched the new student magazine at the school assembly last month.

Catherine McAuley Westmead students have launched their own student magazine.

McAuley’s Got News is a brand-new student initiative created by the students themselves. This initiative was launched on the 19th of November at the school assembly, but work on the first issue has been happening in the background since Term 2.

The purpose of this new magazine is to voice students’ opinions and showcase their creativity and talent. The magazine is specifically targeted towards younger generations and is meant to be a fun publication that students can check to stay involved in school happenings and participate in the school community.

The magazine covers a wide range of content, from world news to fun opinion pieces such as ‘Which superpower is the best?’ or ‘Which fashion era is the greatest?’ Some issues will feature exciting themed editions - for example, the upcoming Christmas edition will include fun trivia and content tailored to the Christmas celebrations taking place around the school. Furthermore, the magazine will sometimes contain special sections offering advice for students or interviews with teachers and special features.

A huge thanks goes out to all the teachers - mainly Ms Dae, Ms Refalo and Ms Hamilton, and Year 11 students - who have supported the core members of the team and significantly contributed to the magazine, and who will continue to be part of its journey.

McAuley’s Got News is an online magazine found through the school intranet, specifically for students. This magazine is the first of its kind and hopes to continue for many years to come, bringing fun and exciting surprises.

Thank you, and wishing you a Merry Christmas. Don’t forget to look out for the Christmas edition of the magazine!
