Year 11 Legal Studies student Annelise T. has been selected for the annual online media internship program offered by Jesuit Communications which publishes Australian Catholics.

The program will run for a week in May and will give Annelise an introduction to a career in media. She will take part in writing workshops, engage with media professionals and help plan the Spring edition of the magazine.

Last term was a busy term for senior Legal Studies students. Year 11 students spent the term being introduced to the legal system. Their end of term task was to prepare and participate in a mock trial based on the fairytale Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Students were able to experience a variety of roles including lawyers, jurors, witnesses and journalists. Their teachers Ms Nicolson and Ms Spelman said the students demonstrated versatility and skill in courtroom advocacy. “The students had a great time and became heavily invested in the project, showing a strong passion for the legal system,” they said.

Meanwhile Year 12 Legal Studies students have been studying human rights on both an international and domestic scale. To consolidate their learning the students were tasked with creating their own country and subsequently their own legal system which provides a human rights framework. Teachers Ms Nicolson and Ms Spelman said this challenged the students to then combine their theoretical learning, historical understanding, and creative thinking to create a presentation to share with students and staff.

They were able to perform well in their presentation, with some very creative and informed country structures having been developed.
