Year 8 Caritas bake stall
The Student Social Justice Leaders at Catherine McAuley are passionate about spreading awareness of social justice issues and this term their focus has been on the Caritas Australia Project Compassion 2025 appeal.
Year 10 Social Justice Leaders Sara Y., Victoria M. and Amelia P. addressed the recent school assembly where they spoke about the Project Compassion theme for this year - ‘Unite Against Poverty’. “We must come together to support those who are less fortunate,” they told those gathered at the assembly. “We must try to walk in the footsteps of Jesus who helped the marginalised with compassion and humility. As Catholics we focus on this, especially during the season of Lent.”

The Social Justice and MAG (Mercy in Action Group) students are sharing the stories from Caritas Australia, telling students where Project Compassion funds have been used, during Homeroom and on the Compass noticeboard. “Through these stories we are reminded that Lent is about almsgiving and a time for reflection, service and prayer,” the Year 10 Social Justice Leaders said.
In addition to sharing the stories from Project Compassion the seven Houses of Catherine McAuley have been active in fundraising for Caritas Australia in a variety of ways including bake stalls, an ice cream stall, a lanyard and keychain stall with all items handmade by the students, a pancake stall, a raffle and Easter egg guessing competition.
