On Wednesday, 13th November students from Years 10 and 11 completed the training course to become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion assists the clergy in distributing the Blessed Sacrament to the faithful at Mass. There are a few prerequisites for this course, the most important is that the trainee has received all three Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. The trainee must also be 16 years of age.
These students will minister at our Whole School Masses and at the Wednesday Morning Masses.
The training session was conducted after school in the Mercy Chapel by Sr Mary-Louise Walsh ISSM from the Office for Worship. In the training Sr Mary-Louise presented the Catholic Teachings about the Eucharist, including the practices established in the early Church.
Sr Mary-Louise Walsh ran the training session for the students becoming an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
The course also had a practical component and the students practised by confidently distributing unconsecrated hosts. When the students turn 18 years of age, they can continue this ministry in their home parishes.

Warming Hearts This Winter ❤️🩷🩵 The Charity Crochet Group has been busily crafting winter warmers including granny squares, blankets, scarves, beanies and hand warmers. These handmade items will be donated to the Parramatta Women’s Shelter to support women in need during the colder months. The group meets every Wednesday at lunchtime and will continue into next term. We look forward to seeing their completed creations! AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡ Year 8 Japanese students had a wonderful immersive experience on Friday as they participated in a Japanese Drumming Workshop. In addition to learning how to play a Japanese drum, the students were able to practise their Japanese language skills. 🥁

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️ Year 8 History students have been learning about the Aztecs this term. Last week students of Miss Alison put together a display showing what they have learnt with students choosing to show different aspects of Aztec culture such as food, clothing, architecture and weapons. The students developed both a written component (such as a brochure or poster) and a visual component for their displays.

YEAR 11 BIOLOGY 🐙 As part of their study looking at Ecosystem Dynamics (Module 4), Year 11 Biology students this week travelled to Long Reef Rock Platform, Collaroy. The students investigated how the abiotic factors affected the biotic factors found in the different zones of the rock platform.

DANCE WINNERS 🙌 🙌 Well done to the Catherine McAuley Dance students who took part in yesterday’s PDSSSC Dance Competition. The Senior Jazz Ensemble (shown in photo) received 2nd place for their dance ‘Von Dutch’. The Hip Hop Crew also placed 2nd for their performance. AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️ Year 9 Geography (9Geo2) worked in small groups this term to understand the unique characteristics of a particular biome, including the impacts of human activities within that biome and strategies implemented to minimise negative impacts. Each group exhibited their biome in a 'Tourism Exhibition' in class yesterday to showcase it as a potential holiday destination. Visitors to the exhibition were delighted by the tourism campaigns which were persuasive and informative as each group attempted to entice holidaying in their location. Mrs Stevens congratulates 9Geo2 on their creativity, enthusiasm and effort towards their biome exhibitions!
