Madeline (left) and Mischa (2nd left) were part of the winning team at the Sport for Jove Shakespeare Carnival last year. The team was crowned State Champions.
Congratulations to Year 11 student Mischa D. who is an actor in the winning submission by CAPTIVATE for the upcoming Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) Intersection Festival.
The Intersection Festival gives students and teachers the opportunity to work with ATYP to present new Australian stories. The play ‘I Really Like You’ was chosen as the winning CAPTIVATE submission and will be performed by Mischa from Catherine McAuley and a student from St Patrick’s Marist College Dundas.
Mischa says she is glad to have the opportunity to perform at the Intersection Festival as it is a wonderful way to showcase her performance and connect with other students like herself. “I'm particularly looking forward to the chance to learn from the experience of performing on a larger stage”, Mischa said. “I performed in the State finals of the Shakespeare Carnival last year with three of my peers from Catherine McAuley and it was an amazing experience, so I'm honoured to be able to participate in a similar event”.
“Performing is something I enjoy because it allows me to express myself creatively and has helped me to become a more confident individual. I am able to put myself in the shoes of the characters and connect with them on a deeper level, and that makes the whole experience special to me”.
Mischa recommends the CAPTIVATE program to any students interested in the performing arts, especially drama. “It is a great way to develop your talents, make new friends, and have fun while learning. The junior years focus mainly on improvisation, as well as developing your performing skills, whereas the senior years focus more on composition and competitions like the Shakespeare Carnival and the ATYP Intersection Festival. I highly recommend signing up, even if you are unsure about it at first, you won't regret it at all”.
