Seven Year 10 students were accompanied by Ms O'Donoghue and Ms Nicolson at the Australasian Mercy Secondary Schools Association Student Conference in Bendigo, Victoria.

Seven Year 10 students last week attended the Australasian Mercy Secondary Schools Association Student Conference in Bendigo, Victoria. The conference was attended by 21 schools from around Australasia and allowed the students to explore the many multiple facets of Mercy.

There were many exciting events held including attending Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral; exploring the history of Bendigo, for example going 61 metres underground at Australia's most successful gold mine; visiting the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion (a Buddhist temple); and listening to guest speakers that not only voiced the significant actions they were taking to show mercy but also answered many of the attendees questions allowing them to consider ways in which they can undertake mercy actions in their own lives.

The students also participated in various workshops as varied as making ‘Mont Lone Yay Paw’ (a traditional Burmese dessert), preparing birthing kits for the underprivileged, and assisting in creating a poster to stop domestic violence. These workshops perfectly encapsulated the value of mercy, allowing delegates to partake in mercy works that encouraged them to be active participants of compassion and to emanate this into the wider community.

All the delegates who attended this conference will now collectively think of and introduce ways to continue to demonstrate the act of mercy in our McAuley community.
