McAuley Westmead students at a careers expo, holding up promotional material
Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend a careers expo last month.

Last month Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend a careers expo, held at St Paul’s Catholic College, allowing them to explore a number of post school options.

Students were able to speak with representatives from universities, private colleges, TAFE, the police force, defence force, apprenticeship organisations and more.

Students were asked what was their biggest takeaway from the experience and below are some of their answers:

“By attending the expo I was able to gain more information about courses I have always had an interest in, as well as the opportunity to explore other options and electives for these courses”.

“My biggest takeaway from visiting this expo was discovering all the different universities beyond USYD, UNSW and UTS. I found that there were a range of schools that offered my desired course, with more attainable prerequisites or acceptance requirements”.

"Talking to the USYD ambassador opened my eyes to all the different career paths one can undertake by doing an engineering degree”.

“I discovered that there are different ways to get into uni, as well as different pathways, scholarships and early entry for different courses”.

“There's thousands of different pathways I can take and there's so many different career options. It reminded me that it's not the end of the world if I don’t get into my first choice. I can experiment with what I want to do after school. Seeing it all there at the expo was comforting because it helped me gauge visually what was going on”.
