Three Catherine McAuley students, who are considering a career in the fashion industry, attended a two day workshop on sustainable fashion design at TAFE NSW Hills campus last week.

Angela C. Year 11 and Zara B. and Jordyn L. Year 10 had the opportunity to explore fashion design through the lens of sustainability and circular strategies. The students learnt how to identify key design features and develop a product through re-use, re-cycle and regenerative use.

Angela said that the students who attended found the workshop engaging and learnt a lot about creating fashion items from second hand fabrics. “The main objective of the two day course was to create a textile bag out of old denim jeans of different thicknesses and colours, so that it becomes sustainable and reusable. We also listened to a talk with one of the employees from the Australian clothing brand Zimmermann. They spoke about their journey in the fashion industry”.

“Everyone who attended is now seriously considering a career in this industry”, Angela said.
