Canoeing was one of the favourite activities at the recent Year 7 Activity Day

Year 7 students had a wonderful outdoor recreation experience last Tuesday, 8th August as they came together for a day of team building and challenges at Vision Valley, Arcadia.

The Year 7 Activity Day is designed to not only foster team building and resilience but to also develop skills in problem solving and critical thinking. Students were challenged to step outside of their comfort zone and support each other as they participated in canoeing, abseiling, mountain bike riding and challenges such as the ‘vertical playpen’ and ‘sugar gliding’.

Year 7 students Bea and Gabrielle both said they enjoyed canoeing the most. “It was my first time canoeing”, said Gabrielle. “I love the water so I enjoyed splashing each other and having fun as well as working with my canoe partner to paddle together. It helped build a stronger relationship”.

Bea said she was scared at first to try canoeing but working together with another student it was exciting to face her fear. Bea also liked the vertical playpen. “I liked how our group was cheering and supporting each other”.

Sybella said she enjoyed the sugar gliding activity as this involved ‘flying’ high whilst attached to a rope. “I felt like I was flying. I was a little bit scared but because I didn’t have to go first I was OK”. Sybella also said she enjoyed mixing with students she had not really spoken to very much before.

I enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends because we were separated from our current friends. This was actually good.

The highlight for Riena was the crate stacking competition as this involved two teams competing to see who could stack and climb the most crates. “It was a fun activity which involved working together as a team”.
