Year 9 Student Performs Sanskrit Literature Songs at Parliament House
Year 9 student Prasidha P., performed this weekend with her community language school, Sydney Sanskrit School, at the opening ceremony of an event called International Gita Mahotsav.
This event was held at Parliament House and Prasidha and some of her fellow language school students were chosen to sing Sanskrit literature songs.
Sanskrit is an ancient and classical language of India. Prasidha said that during their performance they sang both the Australian and Indian National Anthems followed by a Sanskrit recitation.
Year 7 Student Selected For Elite Football Program
Congratulations to Year 7 student Ava L., who has been selected to participate in the Football NSW Talent Support Program for elite players.
This program allows players to train and play friendly games against the best from across NSW, in addition to their regular club commitments.
The program gives talented players exposure to a high quality environment and training sessions. Well done Ava!
Year 10 Student Competes At 2023 Golf Regional Academy Games
Well Done to Marie-Claire D., Year 10 who is part of the Golf Squad who competed and represented Western Sydney at the 2023 Regional Academy Games held recently at the Wagga Wagga Country Club and Tumut Golf Club. The team came 2nd which was a wonderful achievement.
Marie-Claire also represented Catherine McAuley at the NSWCCC Golf event held at the Waratah Golf Club, Newcastle in March 2023.

National Reconciliation Week has just been celebrated across Australia, with the theme ‘BE A VOICE FOR GENERATIONS’. Reconciliation Week helps us to acknowledge the Stolen Generation and the mistreatment of Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Students across the school were able to contribute by writing a message in homeroom or directly on the message board to highlight the importance of Reconciliation Week.

Live Music in Mercy Square🎶The Culture Leaders put together an group of talented music students from Year 11 and 12 to play live music in Mercy Square for everyone to enjoy! Last night 140 students in Years 11 and 12 slept out at the annual winter sleepout, an event designed to build empathy with others who sleep out every night. Students had $2.00 each to spend on dinner and they made the best of the cold winter night.

This week Year 10 spent the day thinking about their next few years of school and the world beyond during their careers day. Students were inspired and motivated by Kathyrn Taylor, who spoke about the trends for the future of work and insights into choosing subjects for senior school. They also heard about the Western Sydney Airport production, and jobs in marketing, construction, engineering. Finally, students participated in a panel discussion, with ex-students and current Year 12 students to help aid in the Year 10’s approaching decisions regarding their subjects!

On Friday, the Year 7-9 PDSSSC football gala day team headed to Jamison Park for a day of battling it out on the footy field. They were victorious in 6 of their 8 games, showing great effort, talent and camaraderie. Football has a bright future at McAuley with these girls in the team!

🪐🧑🚀 The Australian Space Design Competition has begun at Catherine McAuley! Girls from STEM Club in Years 10-12 have entered two teams into the qualifying round where they will respond to an RFT (Request for Tender) to create an inhabitable space settlement. ASDC is an ‘industry simulation experience’ and allows girls to develop skills in teamwork, research, marketing and more!!

Last week the Assistant Leaders were invited to the Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta Women in Leadership Forum. It was an opportunity to be inspired by renowned women from a variety of fields, as they shared their perspectives on women in leadership and discussed how each of us can be courageous advocates with limitless opportunities. The forum speakers were Tracey Spicer, Multiple Walkley Award winning Author, Journalist and Broadcaster. Dr Louise Koelmeyer, Head, Department of Health Sciences and Director of ALERT. Jayne Steer, group manager, internal communications, John Holland. Lana Taylor, Entrepreneur, Author and Co-founder & Director of Three Birds Renovations.

Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) students, staff and members of the Jarara Culture Centre attended a moving ceremony at the 2023 Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Service at Hyde Park.

Catherine McAuley’s Social Justice Leaders, Claudia N. and Alyssa A., as well as Jordan B. from Year 9, attended the Indigenous Veterans Commemoration Service, held annually during National Reconciliation on 26 May. This important day provides an opportunity to recognise and honour Indigenous veterans.

Are you from a house of readers? 📖📚The library is holding a challenge to see which house in the school has the most readers. Every student who borrows a book will receive a coloured token for their house, which is then placed in their house jar. The competition will run until next week, so a reminder to students to get reading and have a look at the display in the library!
