16 students from the Year 9 Accelerated Mathematics class attended a talented mathematics workshop last Friday at Cerdon College, Merrylands.
Run by Inquisitive Minds, an educational business who partners with The Mathematical Association of NSW, the students who attended learnt a variety of problem solving strategies which can be applied to the mathematics content they are currently learning and help improve their achievement and understanding in assessment tasks. The workshop gave the students the opportunity to compete against students from other schools in the Diocese who attended.
Isabella Galea, Year 9, who attended the workshop said it was an interesting day and she enjoyed being pushed out of her comfort zone. “There were multiple levels of questions with most being problem solving types of questions, which is not what we really do in class, so I enjoyed the challenge of these. I also found the workshop a bonding experience for the class as we were able to work in pairs and then we all came together as a group to build a bridge. It was a challenge to see which school could build the best bridge and I enjoyed the chance to work together on this”.

Our Lady of Mercy Statue Gifted To The School By Sisters of Mercy Parramatta
The school has been gifted a statue of Our Lady of Mercy by the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta. The statue has a unique history and was made by a sculptor who had also carved the well known statue of Our Lady of Fatima.

Congratulations to the Year 12 students who have completed the 'Leadership in Complexity' university subject they studied in 2024. The course gave the students the opportunity to understand leadership styles and traits and they learnt about leadership in crisis. We congratulate these students for taking on the challenge of completing a university subject alongside their school studies. Mr Hall, Assistant Principal, accompanied the students to the graduation ceremony last week. 🎓

All the best to our students beginning the HEX High Accelerator Program! Over the coming six weeks, they’ll be building real-world skills in innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship - all while developing their own impactful ideas and working towards a university credential. What an amazing opportunity! 🎓 Catherine McAuley has partnered with HEX (Higher Education Experience) to offer this program to selected Year 11 or 12 students. The program is designed to assist students with developing their creativity and problem solving skills, discover new technologies and the fast changing world of startups. On successful completion of the course, students will receive a Graduate Academic Record credentialled by the University of Sydney which can be used as recognised prior learning at certain universities both in Australia and overseas.

YEAR 10 STUDENTS WALK THE TALK ON RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS ▪️ Last Friday Year 10 students participated in the Walk The Talk Respectful Relationships Education Program. This workshop was delivered by Dannielle Miller OAM, Director of Education, Women’s Community Shelters and CEO of Enlighten Education. And of added interest to Catherine McAuley an ex-student from the Class of 1987! 💕 Dannielle described returning to her former school to speak to Year 10 as “one of the most special events of my career!” The school certainly loved having Dannielle return to speak. The program educates students about the elements of healthy relationships and the nature and characteristics of relationship abuse and coercive control. The program informed students how to handle disclosures of abuse and how to seek help. Following this program the students took part in a practical workshop led by Julia Fleming, Education Officer for Women’s Community Shelters. Year 10 students are exploring ways to address the needs of our local community by supporting the Parramatta Women’s Shelter in a practical way. LEADERSHIP 🔸 Four Year 12 Catherine McAuley students have spent the last year participating in a leadership program through the University of Sydney. Each holiday period the students attended the USYD campus and completed a variety of leadership workshops aimed to develop their leadership skills. As part of the program the students were assigned to a group with students from other schools and were asked to create a presentation answering the focus question, "How will you utilise leadership for good in the next 12 months to ‘make things happen’?". The students presented to all the students in the program and finished with a graduation ceremony which took place over the most recent holidays. Well done to Emily G., Niamh M., Kaitlin C. and Ann C. on completing this program.

BELLISSIMO!! 🇮🇹 Year 11 Italian students with Ms Tolhurst enjoyed a delicious Italian meal last week as they visited the Italian restaurant Three One Seven in Parramatta. The excursion gave the students the opportunity to experience a little slice of Italy and enjoy some Italian food including the pappardelle lamb ragu and authentic pizzas. After lunch the students visited Messina for a gelato. Year 11 student Acsah N. said that the excursion was a fun and memorable experience. “We’re grateful to the school, and especially to our Italian teacher, for organising it and we look forward to more amazing excursions like this in the future!”

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡ Year 12 Visual Arts students (12VA1) of Mrs Langbein-Pass spent today attending an immersion workshop to allow the students to work exclusively on their major work. The students are actively working towards their HSC Body of Work which will be due in early September. The standard of work is very high and the school looks forward to viewing the completed works later in the year.
