Congratulations to Victoria C., Year 12 who represented Catherine McAuley at the Crestwood Lions Club Youth of the Year Program held last Thursday evening.
The Lions Youth of the Year program encourages and fosters leadership skills in Australian students approaching the end of their high school years. The program recognises the achievements of young people in education, sport, community service and public speaking. Victoria participated and competed against three students from other schools.
The program involved a rigorous evaluation process. Victoria was interviewed by a panel of three judges for a period of 30 minutes. She had to answer a number of questions showcasing her general knowledge as well as talk about initiatives she has undertaken at school, her academic achievements and her activities outside of school. Following the interview panel Victoria had to respond to two impromptu questions and present a prepared five minute speech in front of a sizable audience.
Whilst Victoria did not proceed to the next stage of the competition she was announced as the winner of the Public Speaking Award. Ms Raja, Catherine McAuley Public Speaking Coordinator, said that Victoria took on this challenge in a calm and collected manner and spoke with great insight and passion.
Congratulations and well done Victoria!
