Catherine McAuley students have many opportunities to start thinking about what they would like to do after school with regular career talks and events organised by Mrs Amanda Chahine, School Careers Advisor.

Every Monday during Term 2 there are career talks held during lunchtime; the Year 12 students recently attended a Careers Expo; and this week on Thursday the Year 10 students will spend the entire day learning about the future of work, examining their strengths, listening to a session from UAC about university selection and hearing from both ex McAuley and current Year 12 students on their HSC experiences.

The Career Mondays lunchtime talks are always popular with students who are able to bring their lunch and sit and listen to a speaker from a particular industry speak about that career. Last Monday it was early childhood education which was examined with two representatives from Uniting sharing their career journey with students. Malina Newman, Area Manager and Katrina Hayes-McGovern, Centre Manager at Uniting Care Westmead gave an insightful look into careers with young children, the rewards this industry brings and discussed the significant role early childhood educators play in the development and care of children and their families.

Last Friday it was Year 12 students who had time to focus on post school options with the students attending a Careers Expo held at St Paul’s Catholic College, Greystanes. The day provided students with a good introduction to many of the tertiary options available and allowed them to speak to the different providers and ask lots of questions. Year 10 will have the opportunity to start thinking about their future when they attend the Year 10 Careers Day on Thursday.
