YEAR 10 COMMERCE 📉 Three Year 10 Catherine McAuley teams were selected as Grand Finalists in the Macquarie University Bubble Tea Innovation Challenge - an incredible achievement with only ten teams chosen from schools across Sydney! Team Zentro were awarded 2nd place and Team Tacos2day placed 4th overall, showcasing outstanding creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial flair. Congratulations to all the Year 10 Commerce students involved and to teachers Ms Nicolson and Mrs Noud for their guidance and support!

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️ Last Friday, our Year 9 Visual Arts students from classes 9.1 and 9.2 hosted a creative “snack-and-selfie banquet” in the CS103 art room! 📸🍓🍰🥯 Exploring the art of flat lay composition, students arranged and photographed vibrant food displays inspired by Australian artist Whitney Spicer, whose work explores the beauty of food and table scenes through expressive colour palettes and composition. Students will then translate the images into their own painted interpretations. The lesson was filled with colour, conversation, collaboration… and of course, delicious food! The finished artworks will be exhibited at the CAPA Showcase on Wednesday 26th November.

AROUND THE CLASSROOMS ➡️🎨During Term 3, Year 9 Visual Arts students created a series of lino block prints inspired by their visit to the Art Gallery of NSW. Drawing on native Australian flora, the work of Modernist artist Margaret Preston, and contemporary influences from Aboriginal artist Tony Albert, students developed unique designs celebrating both nature and the diverse cultural influences within Australian art. 🌸 The creative process began with observational sketches of native flora arrangements and still-life objects in class, then carefully composed onto lino blocks for carving. Using specialised tools, students explored expressive mark-making techniques before printing their designs using both a printing press and hand baren. A key challenge—and highlight—of the project was mastering the colour reduction technique, which required students to methodically carve and layer colours to create rich, multi-toned contemporary prints. The final artworks will be exhibited at the CAPA Showcase in Week 7, with selected prints available for purchase to support the Jesuit Refugee Service.

🚲YEAR 11 HMS🚲 On Friday 19th October, Year 11 Health and Movement Science students visited the Blacktown Exercise, Sports and Technology Hub (BEST). It provided practical experience with elite sports testing and deepened understanding of core syllabus content, especially around biomechanics, fitness testing, and health and performance indicators. 🟰➕YEAR 8 MATHS FUN ✖️➗ Last Friday, Year 8 students enjoyed a full day of exciting mathematical activities as part of the Maths Enrichment Day, a day designed to build problem-solving skills through fun, hands-on and collaborative activities. Students took part in a workshop run by Inquisitive Minds, working in pairs to tackle problems using critical and creative thinking. They then enjoyed fast-paced Maths Relays and a 3D building challenge using wooden blocks to design imaginative models. The day ended on a high with our very own Maths X Factor, where students showcased their creativity through maths-themed songs — a perfect finish to a day filled with enthusiasm and teamwork! 🎤

'On Thursday last week, Year 8 English students enjoyed a live production of ‘Flowers For Algernon’, a science-fiction short story centered around the concept of growth and development. The students are studying a unit called 'Growing' this term, the play gave them an interesting insight into self-reflection, resilience and trust. 📚🎭
