HARMONY WEEK 🎶 🌏 🧡 Last week, Catherine McAuley celebrated Harmony Week, culminating in Harmony Day on Friday, 20th March! This special occasion celebrates our diversity, promoting inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone. At lunchtime, talented music students performed in Dobson Green, bringing the community together for a joyful music event! CELEBRATING 60 YEARS 🥳 The original archive caption for this photo simply reads, “Students carrying bricks to art class in 1966.” We’re not quite sure why the students were carrying bricks! What stands out, however, are the wooden planks beneath their feet. Following heavy rain that year, the school grounds became extremely muddy, so planks were laid across the site to help staff and students move around more easily. Students in the photo are: H. Jacobs, C. Savage, F. Mackey, F. Wilson, M. Toomey, D. Nestor and C. McKenzie.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS 🏏 Congratulations to Kyra P., Year 8, Michelle P. , Year 8 and Lucy C., Year 9 who competed in their cricket grand final over the weekend making an exciting and well-earned finish to their season! As part of an all-girls team playing in a mixed competition largely made up of boys’ teams, their achievement is especially significant. Throughout the season and in the grand final, the McAuley students showed outstanding teamwork, determination, and resilience against strong competition. Each player made valuable contributions across batting, bowling, wicket keeping, and fielding, demonstrating skill, confidence, and commitment to the game. Their efforts not only highlight their individual talents but also the growing strength and presence of girls in cricket. Reaching a grand final is a fantastic accomplishment and reflects the hard work and dedication shown all season. Kyra, Michelle, Lucy, and their teammates should be incredibly proud of their efforts. 👏👏👏 An additional mention to Michelle P. who this week was presented with the award for Best Junior Female Representative Player of the Year by the Parramatta District Cricket Association (PDCA). Michelle was awarded for her achievements in the U13 and U15 NSW Cricket Youth Championship competitions. 🙌

PDSSSC Swimming Carnival Highlights 🏊♀️ Congratulations to the students who represented Catherine McAuley at the PDSSSC Swimming Carnival which took place on Tuesday this week. Fantastic results! The Senior 4x50m relay team powered their way to 3rd place. 🥉 The 6x50m relay team secured an impressive 2nd place. 🥈 In this event, one student from each age group competes (i.e. a 12-year-old, 13-year-old, through to a 17-year-old). A special congratulations to Giselle V., Maisy C.and Billie F., who have qualified for the NSWCCC Swimming Championships on 1st and 2nd April. Wishing these students the very best as they take on the next level of competition! 👏

YEAR 9 DANCE 💃 Year 9 Dance students are currently enjoying an exciting opportunity to learn from a guest artist who has over a decade of experience in musical theatre. Jade Lee has an impressive performance background with some of her standout performances including Annie with the Hills Musical Theatre Company, Cats with Packemin Productions, Legally Blonde with the Bangalow Theatre Company, Singin’ in the Rain with Willoughby Theatre Company and most recently her lead role as Juliet in Pan Academies of Creative Arts production of ‘& Juliet’ shown at the Riverside Theatre Parramatta. As part of their Hybrid Bodies on Stage unit, students learned a high-energy commercial jazz sequence, gaining valuable insight into the style, technique, and performance quality required in the industry. Ms T. Flynn, Dance Teacher shared that students had an “absolutely fantastic time learning from her,” as they continue exploring a range of musical theatre styles - from theatrical jazz to contemporary forms like commercial jazz and hip hop. A truly inspiring experience for the Year 9 dancers! 🔥

YEAR 8 REFLECTION DAY ✝ 💦 As a year group, students continued to explore what it means to be an advocate and a young Mercy woman of integrity. Fr Robert Riedling’s input gave the students a clearer understanding of these terms and spoke about how Jesus was an advocate when he stood up for those living on the margins of society. Fr Robert also emphasised that a person of integrity never waivers, they are always consistent in their thoughts and actions. One of the priorities of this year’s Project Compassion is to eliminate water scarcity. Year 8 students walked in solidarity with those who do not have access to clean running water in the Water Walk Activity. This activity and the Catholic Social Teachings highlighted the importance of being an advocate for the women and girls who spend 200 million hours daily carrying water. 💧🪣 Another session was devoted to looking at models of integrity - St Patrick and Venerable Catherine McAuley. Students joined with the Cathedral parishioners for the 12:30 pm Mass which was celebrated by Fr Andrew Rooney. The Year 8 Reflection Day was a great community day for new learnings, reflection and being part of our wonderful school.
