Student Technology Leaders Cyrille R. and Siya P. organised STEM Week at the school.
Organised by the Student Leaders of Technology, STEM Week at the school brought together a range of exciting challenges and hands-on activities.
Last week was STEM Week! Every day of the week there was an activity or challenge for students to participate in giving them the chance to celebrate many of the different areas of STEM. Year 11 student Azrin B., a participant in the KHUDA Women in STEM Program, has written about the week:
During STEM Week, students participated in a range of activities and challenges throughout the week that strengthened their STEM capabilities and taught us new skills across each area of STEM.
On Monday, we engaged in a scientific investigation into the properties and formation of bubbles. Using materials such as pipe cleaners and rubber bands, we explored how different structures could be used to create bubbles of varying shapes and sizes, while examining the science behind bubble formation.

On Tuesday, our technology skills were put to the test by working in small teams to code an Edison Robot through a maze. We competed against each other by coding our robots through the maze determining who was either the fastest, using the high-speed race mode, or the most efficient by navigating around obstacles in the Pac-Man style maze. This challenge taught us the skills associated with coding and technology and broadened our understanding of robotics in STEM careers.
Robo Rush Challenge.
On Wednesday, we developed our engineering skills through a structural design challenge using uncooked spaghetti and marshmallows to construct the tallest possible tower. This activity required students to apply engineering principles and the design process as they explored different shapes and structures to create a tower that was both tall and structurally stable. The tower had to withstand a ‘small scale earthquake’ by shaking the table supporting the structure.

Finally, on Friday, we participated in a Mathematics Gameshow where we competed in teams to solve a range of mathematical questions. Students cheered one another on as teams raced to answer questions that challenged their mathematical abilities and extended their thinking.

Thank you to the Student Technology Leaders, Cyrille R. and Siya P., for organising STEM Week. The week was a valuable experience for students, providing opportunities to engage in new and challenging environments while further developing STEM skills and understanding.
