The winning Maroon Cricket Team with Coach Mr T. Taniane
Catherine McAuley is celebrating both 1st and 2nd place in this year’s PDSSSC Cricket season.
The Catherine McAuley Maroon Cricket Team has won the PDSSSC Cricket Season for 2025! And in what is a double victory for the school the Catherine McAuley Teal Team are the Runners Up.
The PDSSSC Cricket Final was held last Thursday, 13th November and was an all-McAuley event, with the McAuley Maroon Team clinching a thrilling 1-run victory over the McAuley Teal Team!
At the school assembly this week Mr T. Taniane, Maroon Team Coach and Ms B. Robson, Teal Team Coach, celebrated the successes of both teams and Ms M. Refalo, School Principal, presented the students with their medals.

“We have been in the PDSSSC competition for four years now and after winning the first two years we tasted defeat last year so it is good to be back again in the winners circle, not just with one of our teams but two teams," said Mr T. Taniane.
Of all the teams who competed in the competition our teams finished 1st and 2nd from the divisional rounds which meant they had to play the semi finals. The Maroon Team won its semi by 24 runs and the Teal Team by 3 runs so we were expecting it to be a fairly tight final.
The final ended up being even tighter than expected and it went down to the very last ball. Ms B. Robson said that camaraderie and integrity were on display with the students playing against their friends.
Congratulations to both the Maroon and Teal Cricket Teams on a fantastic cricket season this year.

✨ YEAR 7 2026 ORIENTATION DAY ✨ There was so much excitement at Catherine McAuley today as the future Year 7 2026 students joined us for their Orientation Day! The students learnt so much about the school today as they enjoyed many fun activities and a tour around the school with their Year 10 and 11 tour guides. We look forward to welcoming them back to Catherine McAuley Westmead next year.

Last night, Catherine McAuley students and staff attended the official launch of the Khuda Program at the University of Sydney - an incredible new initiative promoting STEM career pathways for women in Western Sydney. 👩🔬💻⚙️ Catherine McAuley is proud to be one of only six schools selected to take part! The program will include incursions and excursions for Years 7-10 and a special mentoring program for 13 students in each of Years 11 and 12. Students in Years 11 and 12 were chosen from applications they submitted. In order to be eligible, students had to be enrolled in Maths, Science or TAS subjects. Almost 50 students in both Years 11 and 12 applied, with a very strong group of 13 chosen in each year group by the university. The program begins in 2026 and will continue thereafter. School Principal Mary Refalo says, “We are greatly looking forward to our participation in this program and to the benefits it will offer our students as they prepare for their 21st Century careers.”

YEAR 9 CAREER DEVELOPMENT DAY 💼 Today Year 9 students took part in a full day of career-focused activities in the Morley Centre. The day was designed to spark early career thinking and help students explore the world of work. Students took part in workshops on resume writing with Turning Point Consulting; interview preparation with Ms J. Xuereb, Leader of Learning, Pathways and Partnerships; and engaging sessions with the University of Sydney, Academy of Interactive Entertainment, and 1300 Apprentices. The students were also guided through career websites utilised by the school to help them to understand themselves, explore different careers, make a career plan and much more. An exciting step towards their future pathways! 🌟
