A Year 12 student gained valuable insight into the finance industry through participation in the UBS Leadership Academy.
Year 12 student Cyrille R. was selected to take part in the UBS Young Women in Leadership Academy during the July school holidays. UBS is a multinational investment bank and financial services company. Cyrille has written about this experience below:
The UBS Young Women in Leadership Academy Program was an incredible opportunity for me to experience life in an office within a well-renowned bank. I had the special opportunity to meet incredible top industry professionals, all from diverse financial disciplines ranging from marketing to global banking. The various activities and in-conversations allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the finance sector.
The highlight of my experience was the chance to connect and collaborate with amazing young women, sharing interest in business and leadership. We further collaborated to create a comprehensive business plan with a unique product allowing us to strengthen our problem-solving skills.
The academy was an unforgettable, inspiring experience and I highly recommend others to seize the chance to apply to this program in the future as well!

โจ YEAR 7 2026 ORIENTATION DAY โจ There was so much excitement at Catherine McAuley today as the future Year 7 2026 students joined us for their Orientation Day! The students learnt so much about the school today as they enjoyed many fun activities and a tour around the school with their Year 10 and 11 tour guides. We look forward to welcoming them back to Catherine McAuley Westmead next year.

Last night, Catherine McAuley students and staff attended the official launch of the Khuda Program at the University of Sydney - an incredible new initiative promoting STEM career pathways for women in Western Sydney. ๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐ปโ๏ธ Catherine McAuley is proud to be one of only six schools selected to take part! The program will include incursions and excursions for Years 7-10 and a special mentoring program for 13 students in each of Years 11 and 12. Students in Years 11 and 12 were chosen from applications they submitted. In order to be eligible, students had to be enrolled in Maths, Science or TAS subjects. Almost 50 students in both Years 11 and 12 applied, with a very strong group of 13 chosen in each year group by the university. The program begins in 2026 and will continue thereafter. School Principal Mary Refalo says, โWe are greatly looking forward to our participation in this program and to the benefits it will offer our students as they prepare for their 21st Century careers.โ

ARE YOU READY? ๐ญ ๐ถ The countdown is on for the Creative and Performing Arts End of Year Showcase! Students are hard at work preparing to share their performances and artworks. Yesterday, the Concert Band was in full swing rehearsing with Ms Picone in the Music Rooms. ๐บ๐ต CAPA Showcase, Morley Centre, Wednesday 26th November 2025. Visual Arts Displays 5.30pm - 6.30pm with Performances beginning 6.30pm. Tickets available from QKR app for $5.

YEAR 9 CAREER DEVELOPMENT DAY ๐ผ Today Year 9 students took part in a full day of career-focused activities in the Morley Centre. The day was designed to spark early career thinking and help students explore the world of work. Students took part in workshops on resume writing with Turning Point Consulting; interview preparation with Ms J. Xuereb, Leader of Learning, Pathways and Partnerships; and engaging sessions with the University of Sydney, Academy of Interactive Entertainment, and 1300 Apprentices. The students were also guided through career websites utilised by the school to help them to understand themselves, explore different careers, make a career plan and much more. An exciting step towards their future pathways! ๐

SUPPORTING JRS ๐ When life gives you lemonsโฆ make a difference! ! ๐ ๐ Yesterday, Years 7 and 8 Clare students ran a Lemonade Stall selling delicious homemade lemonade - all in support of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). Lemonade was available in a variety of flavours with all money raised going towards the schoolโs fundraising and awareness raising efforts this term in aid of JRS.

CELEBRATING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS ๐๐ป Catherine McAuley is proud to congratulate the following students for being selected to take part in the KHUDA Academy in 2026 in partnership with the University of Sydney! This is a new program funded by a $100 million donation from the Khuda Family Foundation, to support young women from Western Sydney to explore and excel in STEM education and careers. It will open up many opportunities for the students as those who are selected will be on a pathway to becoming a University of Sydney Khuda STEM Scholar, with reduced ATAR requirements and guaranteed scholarship at USYD for the duration of an eligible Science and Engineering Course. Well done to all students! We cannot wait to see what great things you will do in the future!

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM ๐น The school stopped today to remember all those who served and lost their lives in honour of our country, during WWI, WWII and all past and current conflicts. Led by the Year 9 Elective History class of Mr T. Fraser some classes gathered in Coolock Court and others listened over the schoolโs PA system as the Year 9 students led the Remembrance Day ceremony. The ceremony concluded with The Last Post and a 1 minute silence.

Today we acknowledge the anniversary of the death of Catherine McAuley. ๐ฎ Below is a poem by Mary Wickham rsm as we think about Catherine McAuley on this day. Baggot St Suite: Catherine's Room, Window The warmth of a late summer Dublin evening reaches across acres of Georgian chimney pots and flows through two vast rectangles of light as I sit in the room in which a woman died over one hundred and fifty years ago, awed at the mystery of her calling, the grace which grew in her. What is she to me and I to her? She is present but elusive I know her and do not know her. She leaves broad brush strokes not minute disclosures, Her person less important than her spirit and her purpose. Not for our times, not for words, so much of who this Catherine was, it seems. I ask for some glimmer of knowing, some small window on her spirit, a blessing as I sit here, of kinship and connection, of mentor and sister-guide, of bonds across time, a mercy shared.
