‘Walk In Unity, Nourish Our Community’ has been unveiled as the new school theme for 2026 and the remainder of 2025.
‘Walk In Unity, Nourish Our Community’ has been announced as the school theme for 2026!
At the school assembly this week the School Captains announced the new school theme for 2026 and for Term 4 this year. ‘Walk In Unity, Nourish Our Community’ was revealed as the new theme along with an accompanying logo to represent this message.
“This theme aims to encapsulate the diverse nature of the students at this school, each with their unique cultures and talents, while displaying unity through our connections and mission of faith,” both Talia K. and Lara Z., School Captains, told those gathered at the school assembly.
The logo to represent the new school theme is a boot, to represent Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy who were often referred to as the ‘walking nuns’, holding a bouquet of flowers in House colours.
“The image of the boot reflects the walking nuns, a group of strong women, who went against society’s expectations of silent, hidden nuns, to support Catherine in spreading the Gospel throughout Ireland,” Talia and Lara said. “These women stepped beyond expectations to bring compassion and service to those in need. Like them, we are called to put on our boots of mercy and walk in faith, going out to nourish our community through good works and thus fostering unity.”
“The boot encapsulates the paths we carve out on our journey, each person sets out on their individual path, strengthening their unique talents and embracing their diversity. However the path all leads to the shared goal of unity through Christ and his teachings, reinforcing the togetherness of the Catherine McAuley community, while celebrating our individuality.”
“The bouquet of flowers, each a different House colour, further reinstate how our individual efforts bring us together to create one driving force…flowers must be nourished with water, good soil and sunlight to flourish, which is why we want to emphasise the nourishment of our community this year, so that we, as McAuley girls are able to nurture our communities.”

The School Captains finished their address to the school community reminding everyone that the new theme and logo reminds us all of the diversity within the school, while mirroring the common mission to spread the Gospel, strengthen our faith and foster connection at Catherine McAuley Westmead.
The assembly concluded with the Student Leadership Team demonstrating a new school chant to remind all of the new theme and which will be chanted before the school song.

Both the Intermediate Team (pictured) and the Junior Team came 2nd in their respective competitions. Well done to Emma F., Year 10 who won the highest jump overall in the Intermediate competition and Alexis A., Year 8 who won the highest jump overall in the Juniors.

Last night, Catherine McAuley students and staff attended the official launch of the Khuda Program at the University of Sydney - an incredible new initiative promoting STEM career pathways for women in Western Sydney. 👩🔬💻⚙️ Catherine McAuley is proud to be one of only six schools selected to take part! The program will include incursions and excursions for Years 7-10 and a special mentoring program for 13 students in each of Years 11 and 12. Students in Years 11 and 12 were chosen from applications they submitted. In order to be eligible, students had to be enrolled in Maths, Science or TAS subjects. Almost 50 students in both Years 11 and 12 applied, with a very strong group of 13 chosen in each year group by the university. The program begins in 2026 and will continue thereafter. School Principal Mary Refalo says, “We are greatly looking forward to our participation in this program and to the benefits it will offer our students as they prepare for their 21st Century careers.”
